HERE ARE SOME TOP TIPS TO SAVE YOU ENERGY

Helping you save on your energy bill and helping the environment.

The following top tips will not only save you money on your energy bill, but will also help reduce your carbon footprint.

HEATING SYSTEM
· Keep your heating system and boiler regularly maintained.  Incorrect settings will reduce your boiler’s efficiency.
· Put silver foil behind radiators to reflect heat back into room.

ENERGY SAVING WITH WATER
· Heating water with LPG uses almost half the energy of electricity.
· Install a water saving showerhead.  It consumes up to 40% less water and energy than ordinary showerhead and is just as effective.
· Installing water heating devices as close as possible to where you use the water, and using the narrowest bore piping possible, ensures faster delivery of warm water and wastes less cold water.
THERMOSTAT
· Turn your thermostat down an hour before you go to bed or go out.
· A 1ºC reduction could knock up to 10% off your heating bill.
· Site your thermostat away from cold spots as this could increase your heating costs.
RADIATORS
· Leaving plenty of space around radiators means they work less hard to heat the room.
INSULATION
· Make sure your loft space is insulated.
LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULBS
· Low energy light bulbs can last longer than normal light bulbs and use 80% less electricity.
COOKING TIPS
· A gas cooker is the lowest energy consuming tool for cooking.  The flames ensure pans are heated directly and the cooking process is easier to control.  Remember, top chefs cook on gas.
· Keep a lid on pans where possible.  Cooking without a lid consumes three times more energy.
· The less water you use to cook, the less you need to heat up.
SWITCH ELECTRICAL ITEMS OFF
· Switch your electrical equipment off completely when not in use and avoid using the stand-by mode.
WINDOWS AND DOORS
· Close the curtains at night to keep the heat in.
· Keep doors closed and fit draught-proof weather strips.
ENERGY EFFICIENT APPLIANCES
· Always fill your dishwasher before use.
· Always buy energy efficient appliances such as washing machines and fridges.  An energy efficient dishwasher can use 40% less energy.
